Stellantis Unveils Hurricrate Engine Pricing

In November 2022, Stellantis made waves in the automotive world with the announcement of their Hurricane twin-turbo I-6 engines. These powerful engines, designed for Dodge, Ram, and Jeep vehicles, were set to be available as crate engines for hot-rodders and custom builders. Nearly two years later, the wait is over—we now know the cost of these eagerly anticipated Hurricrates, a name cleverly combining "Hurricane" and "crate."

The Power Behind the Hurricrate

The Hurricrate lineup offers two versions of the 3.0-liter twin-turbo I-6 engine, both of which have already proven their mettle in the updated 2025 Ram 1500. The Cat 1 is the standard output engine, delivering a robust 420 horsepower and 468 lb-ft of torque. For those seeking even more power, the Cat 3 high output version cranks out an impressive 550 horsepower and 531 lb-ft of torque. Despite their smaller displacement compared to the outgoing Hemi V-8, these engines have garnered praise for their performance, leaving many enthusiasts eager to see how they perform in lighter, more compact vehicles.

Pricing and Possibilities

So, what will it cost to bring one of these powerhouse engines into your project car? The Cat 1 Crate Engine is priced at $10,495, while the Cat 3 Crate Engine will set you back $13,745. Imagine transforming your Jeep Cherokee XJ into a high-powered rock crawler without losing its original engine layout, or swapping one into a Nissan S13 240SX as a unique alternative to popular options like the 2JZ or RB26. However, these engines aren't just for modern builds—if you're working on a classic vehicle from before 1976, such as a Plymouth Fury Sport, Dodge Dart, or Duster, the Hurricrate offers a way to keep everything "in the family."

Long-Block Options

For those on a tighter budget or looking for a more customized build, Stellantis offers long-block versions of these engines. Priced at $7,995 for the Cat 1 and $11,715 for the Cat 3, these long blocks come without the intake, exhaust, intercooler, and turbochargers, allowing you to source and install your preferred components.

What's Next?

While the mid-1,000-horsepower Hurricrate Cat X option hasn't been announced yet, anticipation is building for what could be the ultimate turbocharged I-6 engine. Perhaps we'll hear more when Ram unveils its rumored "extreme" 1500 pickup. Until then, hot-rodders and custom builders have plenty to be excited about with the arrival of the Hurricrate engines, ushering in a new era of performance and possibilities.

Whether you're building the ultimate off-roader or a street-shredding muscle car, the Hurricrate offers the power, reliability, and excitement you've been waiting for.
